DALANZADGAD

The provincial capital of Umnugovi, (South Gobi) Dalanzadgad has located 585km from Ulaanbaatar. Half of the population of Umnugovi province lives there. Dalzadgad is the Umnogovi province’s political and economic center and is connected to all its sums cable network. However, most of the province's population is Buddhist and there is also a small number of Christian congregations. The city has large shopping malls and supermarket branches, so it is a good location to shop for food for a trip. The city’s central square is called "Ajnai" and citizens and young people like to go out and spend an evening there. Often major events, shows, and celebrations are organized in this square, along with the Mongolian Naadam festival which is held on the 8-9th July every year. Province’s major airport "Gobi Gurvan Saikhan" is located 6 km from the northern outskirts of Dalanzadgad. After landing at the airport, tourists pass through the Dalanzadgad for stocking up on fresh water and trip food and go on a long trip to the countryside. In addition to small motels, the city has large hotels such as Khan-Uul and Dalanzadgad. Good-quality restaurants such as Green Castle, Crown, and Bayanburd can be found there. There are facilities for children and youth, such as the Museum of Umnugovi Province, a 350-seat Galaxy Cinema, a micro-museum of Mongolian two-humped camels, a park, 6 public schools, 1 private school, a sports complex with a 5-lane swimming pool.

In the 1950s, in the area where the city of current Dalanzadgad is located, there was a river called Dalan River (Seventy river), with reeds about 2m high on its banks, and horses tied inside the reeds were not seen. It is said that there were about 70 springs that flowed abundantly there, so it was called "Dalanzadgai" (Seventy open flows) and later became "Dalanzadgad". Unfortunately, most of those 70 springs have dried up and disappeared current.
